“Melodize” a Harmony | MUS 110 Schedule MUS 110 Syllabus William Wieland |
Compose a tune that fits chords given to you.
Initial Week
— Read “Melodizing” possibilities to help you get started.
— Ask questions.
— Before 5:00 pm on Friday, compose a melody for at least three different 8-measure chord progressions. Save your 3 melodies and their chords using music notation software. To save time, copy and paste any identical chords.
Over the Weekend — Completely forget about this assignment.
Subsequent Week
— On Monday and Tuesday, play your melodies and, with fresh ears, choose the best one, make final revisions, then upload it as an mp3 file to D2L. (Communications tab > Discuss > Compositions and Critiques > "Melodize" a Harmony) To create an mp3 file, look under the Edit menu for Export.
— On Wednesday and Thursday, return to D2L and play your classmate's compositions. Critique at least 2 compositions. In your critiques, comment upon a musical feature you thought had artistic merit and why. Also offer the composer constructive criticism, i.e. one suggestion.
— Finally, read what others wrote about your music.
