Keyboard Harmony Listening Quiz Help William Wieland
Is it major or minor?
MAJOR — Use only , , and/or . Include serifs (the horizontal lines) so I know they are uppercase Roman numerals.

minor — Use only , , and/or . Clearly dot any i so I know they are lowercase Roman numerals.

On this quiz, the dominant triad is major (uppercase) in BOTH major and minor keys. NO USE v!

Questions 1 – 6 begin AND end with tonic, i.e. either or .
  • Dominant to tonic is an authentic cadence, the most common type. Ti resolves UP to Do.
  • Subdominant to tonic sounds like the “Amen” often added at the end of hymns. 2 notes resolve DOWN.

Questions 7 – 10 use tonic, subdominant, and dominant in almost any order EXCEPT dominant never moves to subdominant.
  • Ending on dominant is a half cadence and sounds like the end of a question.
  • The examples on this quiz never end on the subdominant.
