 * Please prepare 2 or more 5-finger patterns at a time.
Competent performances require
  • correct pitches (the first time),
  • a steady rhythm (slow tempos are encouraged), and
  • good posture and hand position (make it a habit).

I monitor your progress from semester to semester. (I do not hear every item every semester.) I occasionally ask to hear an item you performed competently in the past. If it is no longer satisfactory, I subtract it from your list.

Finally, I do not award more than 100 total points for any semester. However, continue practicing until you are assured of 100 points in the fourth semester.

4 
Be prepared to play A, B, C, D, E, F, and G major scales,
hands together, two octaves up and down.
I will ask you to play 3 at random.
Exemplary (grade of A) All notation and fingering essentially correct, with smooth and steady pulse.
Proficient (B or C) Occasional notation and/or fingering errors in requested scales. Pulse and tempo more reasonable.
Below Proficient  (D or F) Numerous notation and/or fingering errors in requested scales. Distinct lack of consistent pulse.
