This is our 2006 solar oven cooking rice on a picnic table in our driveway. It is simply a cardboard box within a slightly larger cardboard box. The boxes are separated by crumpled newspaper as insulation. The inner box is lined with aluminum foil. Strips of cardboard hold a cookie sheet (spray painted black) above the floor. Food is placed in black pots. A sheet of 1/4 inch glass covers the inner box. The reflector is simply cardboard covered with aluminum foil. This oven reaches temperatures over 190 and cooks grains (rice, oatmeal, etc.) and vegetables. |
