Music Composition — Weekly Grading Rubric William Wieland
As I noted on the syllabus, evaluating the merit of a music composition is highly subjective and I want you to find your own voice. I do not want you to spend the semester asking yourself, “What does Dr. Wieland want to hear?” Therefore, your grade is primarily based upon completing assignments on time
  • You earn 85 points if you submit a composition on time.*
  • You earn 42½ points if you submit a composition a week or two late.
  • You receive no points for any composition that is more than 2 weeks late.
  • You earn up to 10 more points by rating your music composition as follows:
     10 – Phenomenal
      9 – Incredible
      8 – Superb
      7 – Great
      6 – Good
      5 – Fine
      4 – Mediocre
      3 – Poor
      2 – Bad
      1 – Dreadful
      0 – Abysmal
You can pass Music Composition simply by composing weekly. However, try to compose daily.

* If I deem your work to be clearly substandard, e.g. a 2-measure-long composition, I will explain why and then give you a chance to resubmit the composition along with a new deadline.
